Book Review: Sisterchicks Do The Hula by Robin Jones Gunn

Sisterchicks Do The Hula by Robin Jones Gunn is about two college friends that have grown up and parted ways, now they are reunited and decide to take the trip to Hawaii, that they had talked about long ago. Both women, Laurie and Hope, are 40 years old, and one of them is pregnant, but they aren't going to let that get in the way of having some island fun. Laurie and Hope do all the things that I would love to do while on vacation such as pedicures on the beach, snorkeling with sea turtles, soaking up the sun, surfing, making leis, and much more.

There was also a lot of humor to be found in the book that I, and I think many women can relate to such as a bad fake tanning mishap, looking at yourself in the mirror and all the catty things that go through your head about your appearance, dreading turning 40, and a quite a few others that I don't want to give away.

Robin Jones Gunn does a wonderful job at describing the scenery that I am easily able to transport myself to Hawaii, without actually going there. She's also very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and culture, that you will learn quite a few tidbits.

I finished this book in less than a week, and I am normally a slow reader. It's kind of a quick read, but I also finished it quickly because it was such an enjoyable book that I didn't want to put it down.

Overall, I think this is a great book for young adult and adult women that are looking for just a light read that is easy, happy, and at times comical.
